Family Fun Day:

Prince Georges County African American Museum and Cultural Center

June 2018

A day of active bystander sticker designing in a new neighborhood, PG County. Warm, welcoming, and profound exchanges were had.

Markers are an interesting conversational conduit. Thank you PGCAAMCC for helping Decode Me Space expand our code library beyond Baltimore City.

Girl Scouts of Central Maryland Summer Camp

July 2018

For a month of one week workshops, we explored how gamification could promote self-regulation. We designed calming apps and games, based on calming coloring books, guided meditation apps, and even virtual knitting. The resulting work was absolutely stunning, and frankly, advanced for 4-6 and 7-12 gradebands. The Girl Scouts of Central Maryland are doing a phenomenal job encouraging confidant, capable, and creative young women, trans, and non-binary leaders. Girls get a front row seat and don’t have to wait for their turn.

Code in the Schools: Codeworks Panel @ University of Baltimore

July 2018

My first panel feature! Thank you, Code In the Schools for being such a stalwart partner in elevating diverse ranges of up and coming designers, leaders, and entrepreneurs. It was an honor to speak to the Codeworks cohort amongst such an esteemed panel: Charlotte James, McKeever E. Conwell, Brittany Young, and Eric Warner.

Morgan State University: Student Organization Summit

September 2018

In another year of firsts, my first workshop for a college audience! It was a high water mark for Decode Me Space—two full house sessions! We discussed ways to develop visuals for personal brands, dream projects, or to sell an event using Canva and Autodesk. The brilliant, philosophical, and purpose-driven conversations I had with MSU undergrads are memories I’ll always treasure.

So honored to be invited for the second year of CITS’s Girls in Computer Science Summit! We took time in Autodesk to design personalized Snapchat filters in two hour long breakout sessions. Students had options of using vector graphics, linework, or pre-loaded graphics. It was interesting to see how students merged styles to create such richly textured graphics.

Free Fall Baltimore Grant Funded AR Storytelling Workshop @ the Motorhouse w. guest mentor Will Gee of BaltiVirtual

October 2018

We turned the Motorhouse into a magical wormhole for an afternoon! Thank you to Andre Mazelin for suggesting a reoccurring event at the Motorhouse and for Baltimore Office of Promotion and Arts for awarding Decode Me Space with a Free Fall grant! This event was also surprising, in that it drew a broad range of youth and adult designers to create pixel AR layers in Piskel and WallaMe. A big, big, shoutout to Will Gee of BaltiVirtual, who led VR demos with youth and for donating Holotats to extend our project into other applications. We were able to fund cardboard VR goggles for participants to take home.
